My dad killed a hog in the middle of a field around 10 this morning. Later he found the carcass drug about 75 yards and completely consumed except bones and the head. Head still has the skin around it. This took place in a matter of 6 hours. Is this normal? I have never seen something completely eaten in that way and have been around hunting my whole life. Anyone got any similar stories? Planning on putting up a camera on the next dead hog...

Coyotes can drag a lot of weight, and a bunch of buzzards can pick bones in a hurry.

Other hogs had a feast, not that uncommon. With having been moved that far this is my guess. Have also seen 2 70 to 80lb pigs consumed overnight by coyotes. Buzzards may have had some food as well.
Nothing truly goes to waste.

More hogs ate it p rob ably. I have seen a small sounder of pigs consume a 2000 lb bull that died in 2 nights.

I have seen where a group coyotes ate a mature South Texas whitetail up one morning in about 1.5-2 hrs. I drove up on them as they were 6-7 running off that I could see. The feeder had went off at 30 minutes before daylight and I think they got him as he was leaving the feed pen. They had stripped all the meat off the bones and ate guts also. Nothing left but bones, hide and neck/head.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Most likely coyotes. They will move a carcass 100 yds. sometimes. They eat the bulk of it, buzzards clean up the rest so fast you wouldn't believe it.

Sounds like a buzzard frenzy to me, natures disposals. Not very likely that coyotes and pigs did that, that fast in the middle of a field in the middle of the day

Coyotes, did it to a deer I couldn't find, I found it at 650am, shot it at right at dusk the evening before.

Coyotes most likely, and maybe buzzards. We will hunt yotes over our left over deer carcass after its been processed at night and it brings in the yotes really well and fast!

Coyotes and buzzards. Every hog I shoot is gone in the morning and they drag it into thicker brush to consume.
I always wondered what it was also, so I got the evidence with a game cam one night.

I've left hogs and been back by the next day and there is absolutely no sign of them. The blood is gone, no bones, no skin. I just chalk it up to nature.

We shot a few hogs about 3 months ago. The buzzards picked all 3 clean in about 10 hrs. I know a pack of cyotes can do the same

My niece shot a javi one evening, pic below. We all went back to the house and chatted for less than an hour before we went back to grab the javi and came upon this. Her dad and I saw a coyote sitting in the field watching us inspect the carcass. I stayed around long enough to get greeted by the 44 mag

Those guys are so sly and sneaky, so hard to catch 'em. I hear tell they are so strong they can drag a good sized calf away before you see their shadow. Silent death.
