Looking for a graduation gift for my little bro. We have about $250 to spend between me and my parents, and he has a gun worth about $250 that he's willing to give us to trade in or sell to add to our cash.

I haven't been in the market for ARs for a long time, but I assume I could get a S&W Sport, DPMS Oracle, PSA low-end upper/lower, and maybe a few other off-brands in that price range. Any significant differences between them? Advice on which to get or where to get it?

For a budget of 500.00 I'd go PSA. I own several of their rifles and have had zero issues.

I put this one together for about $440.
Anderson stripped upper and lower. Spinta barrel, chi-com quad rail and everything else from PSA.
Vortex red dot was another $185 off amazon.

I'd go with the Smith.

I bought an American Tactical Omni in 5.56 for $500 and it will shoot lights out with zero problems. Look at CDNN, they've had that gun on sale recently in the upper $400's on their email flyers.

I'd go PSA as well. Keep a look on their daily deals. Also their "Blem" lowers really have nothing wrong with them. Get that lower for $159 and I've seen several of the daily deals being complete uppers with keymod rails minus BCG and charging handle for $299.
