cost, what kind of quantities we talking about, where was seed grown and by who?

I don't know the cost yet I should have that in the next day or so. These will be 50lb bags. It's from Pinnacle out of MS. Given the interest in this especially in the delta regions I just wanted to get the word out as quick as I could to my Texas guys to get a list going as this will sell out quickly.


I can have it delivered wherever you need it to go and can also work a bulk/pallet/truckload deal if you have friends/neighbors that want to purchase also to help everyone with costs.

ive heard a little about it, was going to try some once but heard five oaks quit supplying it. Itll supposedly grow in standing water like jap, has about a 70 day maturity time. How is it any different or better than Japanese?

I bet the price is a lot different.

kinda what I was thinking. Why I want to know what is better about it. be interesting to see what it is. local co-ops are normally in the low forties to low fifties for fifty lbs of Japanese that is that growing seasons seed. hard to beat that, especially if you're a co-op member and get the returns. browntop even cheaper

The difference in this and jap is golden is much more prolific and robust. It produces much more food/tonnage per acre. The seed heads are larger and hold on longer giving you a longer window of attraction and more food to attract and hold more birds for a longer period of time. It can also tolerate higher water levels when established due to it growing taller than jap and often produces a second or third crop.

So if the ultimate goal is more food for birds this produces far more pounds per acre and a more attractive stand to bring in and hold birds

What I see online is a yield of roughly 3,000 lbs per acre for both jap millet and golden. What makes you say that golden produces much more?

I believe Golden re-seeds itself as well. Which is nice

Field experience from some of our senior guys and the outfitters in the delta regions that have been doing this for a long time. That's why we know this is a better option than other millet varieties. And you are correct about reseeding. You might get 3-4 stands out of golden which overall if your looking at cost per acre also makes it a much better option.

price per 50lbs? also by the ton price?

What is the recommended pounds per acre to plant?

I thin I am missing something about golden millet...if you are flooding your golden millet specifically for duck hunting how does the re-seeding and 2nd and 3rd harvest come into play?

20-25 lbs/acre when broadcast seeded
12-25 lbs/acre when drill seeded

The reseeding would be based on an area where water comes and goes during rainfall or by draining the area.

Thanks... that's what I was thinking that the re-seeding doesn't really apply if your specifically planting for ducks in the winter.

Yes reseeding will depend on several factors and is very dependent on what type of area you are planting and obviously won't be as big of a benefit for some.

Yes it does/can reseed itself and get 2-4 stands out of it. It's not a guarantee obviously but def a good possibility

It won't be any benefit for 95% or more of duck hunters. Unless you plan to drain the water down to allow it to reseed, you will not get multiple stands. Most of us only flood our crops once, so there won't be any reseeding going on.

we'll see what the prices are. Ive drained a couple impoundments to plant rice in during may if itll ever dry out, or in june. they've been mucky mud for about 10 days and have already got a good re-growth of last years Japanese millet coming back. its growing good, but only problem with regrowth is that black and song birds, deer, pigs, and everything else would pretty much have it gone by the time November got here. will take some pics of it next time I'm out. Even if I was going with millet in this pond, I would still probably replant it august. If it rained like this every year you might could hold water until july/august and let the regrowth go from there. but I normally can't hold that much water that long.

not to mention the amount of unwanted plants you get growing when you leave water on during the warmer months
