Does anyone use airsoft for training? I thought I could setup a pretty decent indoor range if I had a more lifelike airsoft pistol? I know it wouldn't be exactly the same with recoil, etc, but I could work mag changes, trigger control, and sight picture. Any recommendations on pistols or places to buy them?

All the airsoft guns that I have shot you have to rack every time, almost never shoot where you aim them, and are prone to breaking. If you can set up a safe range a pellet be better. That being said, Tnoutdoors9, a pretty reputable youtube gun guy, seems to like his airsoft 1911, but his was over $100: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50Oy6pgWILw

Buy Ben Stoeger's dry fire book.

Don't remember his name but a pistol competitor from Japan had trained there for quite some time before traveling to the states to compete and won his first live fire match IRRC. So if you get a good airsoft that would say training with one can be beneficial.

I've done some practice with 22 pistols and even 22 conversions on both Glocks and 1911s, and it's just not the same. It works well for one shot and a transition, but not so much for splits. I think you'd get just as much out of dry fire.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I think dry firing might be a better option at this point. It would be fun, but for the price, I would rather buy ammo.
