Saw an aoudad while out on a ranch yesterday that looked like he had been thru hell. the right side of his body was all scarred up. had spots over both eyes where the hide had been rubbed off. knees were all scabbed over.

he was the leader of his pack of about 15 sheep, but I've never seen one that looked as rough as him.

his right side was beat up real bad with scars/scuffs all down his side, his left side looked pretty ok.

is this normal for a mature aoudad? I've seen some that had been in a fight or two, but this guy looked like he had been worked over with barbed wire

Sounds as if he had been in a fight with a catch pen, drop net or net wire and escaped.

Don't think so. This was a large place in Val verde county. Low fence/no fence.

I asked a few people today and they said for true free ranging animals the older makes tend to have plenty of wounds.

Said when they fight it's pretty brutal

An Aoudad can and will go where it wants to, when it wants to.

LF or unless the HF is about 10' high an Aoudad is free ranging. A few years ago I had a really big Aoudad visit my Ibex which were in about a 5 acre trap with at least a 7' high fence. The trap is behind the house and my Wife saw it and asked what is that? I said a really big Aoudad. He trotted over to the fence and calmly jumped it like it was 4'. And I have never seen him again. I inherited a white fallow doe a few months ago. A few weeks ago she had her left front shoulder and neck really messed up. Most of the hide seemed to be missing. Only thing I can figure out she must have tried to jump back out and got hung in the fence. With animals you never really know what happened.

I killed a big aoudad ram near Post, TX a few years ago in which you could grab his horns and wiggle them around somewhat. Turned out he had a cracked skull right in between his horns and it never seemed to bother him. They are one badasss creature.

I was thinking of introducing them to goliad county....

What I meant to say was not free ranging, but more wild sheep than what is found on a typical hill country ranch

They will get the same treatment as hogs or any other exotic does in Goliad County. up
