Just waiting until April 27 to see if my BIL and self will get drawn. Applied for a couple of different units, so have only done brief planning until we know where we might be going? I am not sure why it takes the NMFG over a month to draw each unit since it is computer generated?

Use to be around the end of June before you knew if you got drawn, April is a lot better. I applied for a couple units myself.

As with most things in life, all things are relative and April is better than June. I did not see as much chatter prior to the application deadline as in previous years. Either less people were looking to draw NM tags, or they didn't want to put the word out?

I did elk and mule deer. I'm pretty sure I'll draw elk but it's gonna be a tough hunt for sure. Mule deer will be interesting to see about.

Put in for MD, PH, Big Horn and Ibex. Only put in for top units for the MD and PH......so I seriously doubt I will draw. The odds are more than 1 in 100 of drawing the sheep or ibex so I don't ever think I will draw one of those.

Only put in for Mule Deer. Wanted to put in for Coues deer in unit 23, but ended up partying up with my brother who wasn't interested. Next year I guess...

I agree, hopefully the sparse pre-draw chatter means fewer applicants but I doubt it. Seems everyone wants to hunt the west now. I put in for mule deer and elk. My girlfriend, who is a NM resident, put in for mule deer, elk, and pronghorn so hopefully between the two of us we can get a tag or two.

We put in for Mule deer unit 2B again. Been drawn three times since 2010. It's harder since they took the tags away from us.

I put in for 7 count them 7 hunts, be lucky to draw 1 or 2 and I am resident. So its tough for everybody. Really hoping I draw Elk and Ibex.

I have a brother who just moved out to south east Arizona, like right on the New Mexico border, so I have been thinking of applying in south west New Mexico. Has anyone had any experience in that part of the state?

I have hunted southwest NM for Turkey, Elk, and Deer. Deer numbers have been down but are coming back. Best hunting is for Elk in the Gila. Turkey is good also, though not nearly as many birds as Texas.

Turkey is good also, though not nearly as many birds as Texas. I was thinking about a DIY elk hunt in that area. Do you have any suggestions on where to get info?

http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/ for starters. Tough part is drawing a tag. If you want to hunt during the rut you got to go bow. Unit 16A is best 16D is a close second.

Well we will all find out this week, as my grandpa used to say, "I wish you as much luck as you wish me". Good luck to all....Posts your results when you get them.

Well, I guess we will see what tomorrow brings. Hoping for first season rifle, mule deer, unit 30. Second choice is first season rifle, mule deer, unit 32 and third is second season rifle, mule deer, unit 30. Hope to hunt a new area in unit 30 that may be holding some larger deer for the area?
Ground cover and water sources should be good again this year, so there should be a healthy herd again this year.

Last year they sent out emails early, so we could get an email as early as today. Good luck to everyone.

I put in for Elk in 16 also, but for the second rifle hunt. Full moon on the first rifle hunt, been there and done that, don't want to do it again. If I get drawn, this will be my 7th trip. Had some good hunts in the past.

Nice elk Stompy.
I guess they fixed their backdoor notification glitch from last year. I have been checking my application status each day for a week now myself. At least that what Im hoping and not that we were not drawn. :0

Is the non-resident quota still the same?
