For those of you that work with or run organizations that offer hunts what kind of process do you go through to find applicants, what kind of research do you do when the applications are submitted, do you use other agencies or organizations to help with the process?
Do you conduct phone or face to face interviews- do you chose based on what kind of information the person provides about themselves?
Any helpful insight into how to get started would be appreciated - either in response to this post or PM
I am not disabled (just fat and slow) - I am not a Vet ( was rejected for service for medical conditions so my life took a different path) but I have been hunting with a disabled vet my entire life ( my father is a Vietnam vet that served in both the Army and the Navy). I keep a small lease out of state to take him hunting every year until he decides he can't do it anymore and I am wanting to be able to share what we have with someone else.
There are many people on this site doing great things to get people with disabilities out in the field and I am just looking for advice, insight and information on how to get started. I think it would mean a lot to my father as he is coming to the end of his hunting days to be able to share the experience with others.
Thanks to all who served- thanks to all that give back. God bless.

I went on a few hunts, There are two organizations that I know of, Wounded Warrior Project and Warrior Transition Unit. Both will give you the information your looking for and will help.

I don't do this with hunts but we do it with work on Facebook we do it as whoever likes the post at a certain number of likes gets a prize or we will use random number generator on people who have commented and that person wins If you are doing face to face find a loca event and have them sign up and draw name most card or sign shops can make them cheaply Maybe talk to a local vfw see if they may be able to help find some individuals

I do something similar for disabled vets and fishing I make and sell catfish bait and i get a guid license for catfish in the spring and summer what I do is when i get someone who say there disabled i ask for they diablity sheet from the army or va and dd-214 I take disabled vets fishing for the day at no cost all the money comes from my selling bait or from guiding wich has made a lot of guids made over how o worded my adds. but it does not bother me they can be man the point to to help disabled vets when i fist started out i didn't and i would get guys who were in a wheel chair because of drinking and driving guy who were kicked out of the military so if nothing ask for the dd-214 or some will alway try to take advantage if you are doing hunts for vets i would like to sign up i alway take my severely disabled and guys who have 100% ptsd if you have questions call me it was tough my first year

Maybe you can start by becoming a volunteer in an organization and learning the ropes.Take a look at www.serveoutdoors.org they have been expanding their chapters in Texas, Louisiana and other states.

The two groups that I work with provide hunting/fishing adventures to terminally ill youngsters or those that have experienced life altering medical events. Most of the kids that we host come as referrals from other groups who do not provide the services that we do, family members, hospitals, doctor's offices, etc. Once we receive their requests we send them an application packet. Once we receive that back we then vet them with their doctors to verify that they truly meet our guidelines. I really hate that we have to go through that process but we have had people request adventures for youngsters in the past that are as healthy as my two grandsons. You know the type that just want to take advantage of the opportunity in order to get something for free. This in turn would take funds and resources that we could has used for an adventure for a youngster who really qualifies. Good luck. If you want to chat more just let me know if I can be of any help.
