Looking to put a solar panels on the cameras to conserve battery life. Moultrie sells one for roughly 90$ but I could do the same with a $25 wgi solar panel for a feeder. Just need to put the proper connector in line to the camera. Anyone done this or know of the correct size connector? Radio shack has 6 different sizes of the co-axial power plug.

The way they are making TC now days a set batteries 6 to 9 months, no need for solar panels anymore.

Look around your house and junk drawers. You can probably find a few with the right size connection. The tighter connection the better. That is what I did on all of mine. I also picked up the cheap wildgame solar panels. Main thing is when you wire it make sure you have the correct positive and negative leads connected to the right place or the the camera goes "poof".

It's not just a solar panel - it has a re-chargable 12v battery & a charge controller in there as well. gonna be a bit over $25.

I put solar panels on mine and a feeder battery. Been going on 3 years never had to replace or recharge a battery.

no charge controller. $25 panel straight to the battery then battery to the camera. I sell the batteries so I only had to pay the solar panel but even at $15 for a battery its light years ahead of having to change batteries or worry if they're still good. I hate when when they decide to pop and get acid all over your tc.

Lithium batteries are the way to go with any cam. On average you'll get a season out of them (unless your setup over a feeder) and you don't have to worry about theft or damage.

I built my own external battery solar packs. The batteries run around $5, the panels $6, the box $4. They have last about 2 and a half years now.

I made mine out of ammo boxes.

That is like the first one I built back in 2013, only used a waterproof boating box. Still working today. My later design was a result of me wanting to find a way to build one under $20.

I use the 9V 2watt 115mm x 115mm x 2mm panels, these panels are actually much stronger then the deer feeder panels which are either 500mA or 1 Watt.

The batteries I use a 6V 4.5mAh (the same as the deer feeder batteries). I get them off of amazon.com in bulk. Right now you can get six for $37.95 ($6.32ea) or 18 for $43.95 ($2.44ea) Here are the links.

I use a little larger system to power feeder winch, but like this for camera, only smaller -



I get my solar panels and mounts/controllers at Kencove.com. The unit pictured is a large panel, 20 watts I think. For a camera pole the panel gets small, maybe 10 watts, the four ups batteries mount in a fat fifty box, and the box mounts on the pole. The camera box mounts about four feet from the ground and the pole is about forty feet from feeder.
