My almost 8-year old female has bad cancer. She weighed 34 pounds at vet in January and now weighs less than 20. She won't make it much longer - she is just skin and bones and breathing has started to get labored. Vet of 30+ years said he had never seen one that bad, and couldn't believe she was still around, much less just as happy as can be. She is a tough hombre for sure. She got lost last year in Kansas for 3 nights, with horrible rain and temps down to 16 degrees. When they found her, she looked like she had when she was lost. Going to miss that little girl. She is my 4th one and I haven't decided if I am going to replace her so my 10 year old male will have a new playmate. But, please keep your ears open for any pups or ones that people are looking to get rid of - DFW area hopefully. I just don't know until the times comes. She had 2 litters with my male but none of them had any litters that I am aware of, so that's kind of a downer. Thanks for any leads in the interim. angel

Sad deal - my dad just lost his 8-yr old Brittany to cancer the week after quail season closed this year. One of the better bird dogs he's owned.

Sorry for your pain and her pain. Nothing any better of a friend than a dog.

I am getting a brittany in May, so I have been talking to a lot of breeders. I know a couple with open spots. Just PM me if you're interested and I can give you some numbers. I know it's probably the last thing on your mind right now though, I'm sorry to hear about your dog man.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I hope you find a good one to replace her. I've got 2 buddies looking for Brit pups right now. When they come across a good litter I'll let you know.

Hey Bass, so sorry to hear about your pup, as most of us on here are dog lovers and have been through this several times. It will never be easy.

I'm on my 3rd lab , never thought I would get another but they are just too good of a friend not to have another and another, etc.

good luck with your search, post some pics for us.

Just curious, have you thought of ending it's pain and suffering?

Yes I will when I think she's ready. On pain meds from Doctor and doesn't appear to be in pain. But ready when she looks at me and says through her eyes that she's ready.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts guys. I'll likely take a couple of you up on the info offers.

My dad didn't end curly's until she decided - hunted last weekend and ran around checkin horses for a week after until she finally laid down. Never missed a beat I don't blame you

Condolences, dogs are amazing creatures. They give unconditional love and will go out of their way many times to prove it. Let her tell you when it is time and enjoy her until then, her drive to please will continue until she just cannot.

Sorry to hear your losing your brit. Your going through the part of your dogs life that we all dread.

That will be a sad day. I have experienced many times. Will again and I'll cry like all the other times.

So sorry to hear, always hard. Someone is giving away a free young male Brit spaniel that is AKC registered on a FB group called "San Antonio Pet Rescue". He does have a broken leg at this time but should heal up okay. Just an idea....

Sorry to hear this. They are as loyal and good as can be.

We have a 14 yr old in similar situation. Vet gave us some advice on when to call it quits and that time is close. Tough decision to make.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I just happened to be reading on another gundog forum and there is a very well started male for sale in Missouri.

It never gets easy. I had to put down my 18 year old heeler in October of 13 and I am finally going to replace her with a new pup this weekend... It's not going to be the same and she's going to have big shoes to fill, but it just ain't right not having a dog in the truck with me. Praying for you brother!!
