Anyone have any luck hunting hogs in SHNF?

There are plenty of hoggs there. That's where I do most of my off season hogg hunting.

I see lots of signs and had a few sightings but its tough to get a shot on those suckers. I usually see them in the last 10 minutes of shooting time when they are moving and it is hard to see them. But I love it in the off season!

While haven't hunted uncle Sam's... 3-16 got on HF ta see if anyone wanted ta do any hog hunten on WMA just down the road... Heard the rumors bout hog problems offered ta help out have gun will travel... People thought i twas so did me own thing, & hunted the WMA for en & chillen, finding hogs twas always the easy part... Been telling people WMA's can be hot spot, limited time for hunts, no night time hunts... The 24-7-365 pressure from surrounding privet land $48.00 permit cant bet price & still helping out land owners... huntsolo

Where can I get information on hunting the SHNF for hogs? I would love to give it a shot

The only info you're gonna get is from going out there and scouting. I've hunted there a bunch and never seen a hog or hog sign. Maybe im not hunting where the hogs are...i hear they are closer to the lake.

You will need to buy a $48 APH permit from TPWD and that will allow you access to hunt public lands and SHNF. They will send you a book about the rules you must obey to be able to hunt and then you are ready to go. BS rules like no baiting and only hunting during daylights hours. Those are your 2 biggest hurdles and rules to obey. But it is fun and tough for sure. Lots of info in prior threads.

I just went down to my usual spots last week to go hunt and after an hour or so I just went back home. The whole place was flooded so I wasnt in the mood to go get my waders and go wadefishing in the forest.

What type hog hunt? Have hunted hogs with several during Jan-March all legal meens hog hunts... One forsure is on here, once in a great while at OSBWMA... Last get tagether we had no luck.... Had found several hog beds, bout two weeks before with son--in-law, but we were short on time... Floods push alot of deer & hogs out, that use WMA ta escape the gun deer & 24-7-365 presure of surounding privet land... Kinda works both ways... i've given out invites in past, guns tis pud up... Or would enjoy the company, can get wet at OSBWMA, tis archery only at end of March... Best wishes...
