i have a 12 volt motor/spinner and when it goes off the corn has a tendency to not throw very far..it throws maybe 10 feet diameter ..alot of the corn goes straight down ..do i need to change the spinner plates..this is nitpiking..but was wondering what causes this..is the torque of the motor too fast? ive set it on lowest speed..food(corn} for thought???..thanks

Sure your motor is running full charge? Motor getting weak? Why put it on the lowest speed? I'd try it on high speed. Something is going on, I had a 6v Sunslinger that would throw 10-15' easy.
I have the eliminator spinner on mine, it has the inertia to pull that down and sling the heck out of corn. Mine will hurl some kernels probably 40' or more, almost to far, but keeps the deer spread out.

thanks western..ill try the elimnator spinner..the reason for the lower setting was the torque that batery/motor puts out..starts up so fast at high speeds tht the inertia cant spin corn right..in other words..i dont know..lol..thanksfor the tip!

Hey mow! Now that's funny.
Do you have a 1/4" shaft on your feeder? You will need that for the Eliminator plate. If it is 1/8" like my Monarchs, use the Monarch rectangular spinner plate.
Don't rush out and buy one...

Yeah, what Cast said!! If it starts off strong then wanes, may be a weak battery??? I bought the one THF'r Kevin sells at http://www.weaverbilt.com/If all else fails and it's in your budget, his feeder/timer/ eliminator combo will strip paint off your truck

As others have said, that 12V unit should be chunkin' much further. May sound like an obvious question, but are you throwing through a varmint cage?
If not, first step would be to check the charge level of the battery. Next, how much gap do you have between the bottom of your downspout and the spin plate? A large gap will feed more corn per time, but at a lower velocity. If both of those check out, it might be a timer issue. Sometimes they go bad and don't flow enough amperage to the motor. Feel free to PM me if I can help any further.
Just curious, what brand of timer is it? Do you have a solar panel charging the battery? Either way, you should run it at the fastest speed to start.
Dennis, thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear that unit is still rocking for you!

Make sure that the spinner plate is tight on the motor shaft and that it is not slipping..... just a thought.

10 foot diameter? That means corn doesn't go further than 5 foot in any direction from the feeder? Something is wrong with your set up.
Faster motor spins further it will throw corn. Our feeders a mix of 6 and 12 volts will all easily throw 25 or 30 foot diameters. I bet the 12 volts throw a 60 foot diameter.
If you have an adjuster that controls how fast the plate spins and your are slowing it down you need to do the opposite.

this is along shot, but does your spin-plate have the little wings at each end of the plate that move up as it spins? If so, are they mounted correctly? I think one of the guys at my lease had a similar issue and I believe it was because the bottom of the wings were tilted inward instead of outward.
Thanks, Rich

Make sure that the spinner plate is tight on the motor shaft and that it is not slipping..... just a thought. ^this If the plate is a cheap factory one and just flat with no tabs and you want it to throw farther, epoxy two or three bent pieces of tin onto the plate near the outside edges to catch the corn as it spins. I sometimes epoxy a slightly bent roofing nail onto the very center of my feeders spin plate of a length that allows the point to stick into the funnel. It allows me to adjust the spinner closer to the funnel if I want with no worry of it stopping up or hanging up. My 12 volt feeder will hurt anyone standing too close to it.

I can only speak for our (HCR) products. Our SPGP "gate plate" will through a 60' diameter on our stubby feeder. Although you may only find 10 or 20 pieces at 60' an out. The FCU on the Stubby is only 3' off the ground. I would think you would get a lot better then 10' with a standard feeder height. Try moving you spinner plate closer to the opening in the barrel.

Hey mow, is that feeder a WGI by chance? If so make sure your RPM settings are on high. They have HI/MED/LOW settings on those units.

Do you have a coon cage on it? The will really deflect a lot of corn down to the ground, and also break a lot of kernels. I started cutting the top vertical wires all around the top using an opening height that they can't reach through and line up the spinner plate to the opening. Makes a big difference.
