Post season on my first lease after being down here for 5 years from PA. This is Willacy County. I did find a small shed yesterday. The one buck is with a doe which also seems odd. Included a few Nilgai pics too just cause their cool.

South Texas bucks start to loose horns around mid March in low numbers. Most will start around the first of April give or take a few days. By the 10th of April most will have shed, with a few still holding out. I have seen bucks still chasing doe fawns the first week of March in South Texas on a LF ranch years ago. Finding sheds in a year with as much green as we already have will be tough.

Last week, I only saw one buck with horns and found several sheds lying around.
Adios,
Gary

I found one with my tractor as well. Brand new tire didn't have 2 hours on it.

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

I hope it was a front tire like mine was. Those danged rear tires are expensive.

Deer never lose horns because they do not have horns they have antlers, Horns do not fall off ever year as antlers do.

Deer in the hill country and south Texas dropped earlier this year than I can remember. Mid march and all the deer on my three ranches had dropped. Typically I see deer with antlers in mid to late April.

I flew my south Texas place last Friday and all bucks had shed.
