Had a great hunt. Only saw a hen and couple deer this morning. No gobbles. Went to new area after lunch we set a pop up at yesterday since we see turkey there all the time. 2:30 boy spots two toms coming our way. I was calling every 15 minutes. They likkednthe dekes Got within 30 yards. Took a few shots and he flew off but I saw where. Couldn't walk on one leg luckily. Beats his Jake's last year. 1 1/8 inch spurs, 10 inch beard.

Thanks everyone. I looked at the distance and that bird flew 160 yards before going down. Glad we were hunting an open area and could watch it the whole time before succombing. He said he aimed for the body and not the head. Used a 20 ga full choke with 3 inch #5 shot. I will say setting up a pop up blind right away will not spook birds at all even in the open. I like running and gunning but when they are not gobbling it is best to sit and wait in a pop up blind with a young hunter since you never know when and where they will show up. In the past when they have come in silent they normally spook by the time you can get the little one turned for a shot when sitting on the ground.
