This is my fall plot as of today. Oats are coming on at about 5" or 6", clover is busting out everywhere. Do I turn it in and plant soybeans or just roll with what I've got? Either way it'll all be brown in August.

I would leave it. Or at least half of it. Is there another area you can put the beans in?

The oats are getting mature. What type of clover is that?

I'd let it all go to seed, at the most you could head off the oats and open it up for the clover if you think it is thick enough.

I would shred it down to about 4-6" in height after the oats makes seed. THen let the clover go as long as it can into the heat of summer.

Thanks guys. I was hoping that letting it go until it headed was a reasonable plan. Last spring I went with soybeans about now but after it got 12" or so we had about 65+ days without meaningful rain. Lost it.

Red bluff - I have another plot that's next to a ephemeral creek. On the shady side. I think soybeans will do ok there as it holds moisture pretty good and doesn't burn up as bad. We'll see...
