1 16oz bottle of propane can put out BTU's that would take about 8 car batteries; which do you want to be carrying around....

I have used a deerborn gas heater in near 0 degree, in a tent elk hunting, we took a 100# bottle, sometimes it was a genset with electric heater. When we used gas, we damn sure had some vents open when sleeping, easy to close for the 1st one up in the morning to raise the temps. We used the bottle and deerborn for over 10 years and it worked great, we just settled for a tad of cool air while asleep.
IIRC the little buddy and the big one I have are "supposed" to monitor air, I personally will have a vent open with any gas type heater. Lost a cousin and his fiance to gas and a tent, so I suppose I am a bit paranoid.

That's the same rig I use to heat my cave, but I use twin heaters and two 100# jugs. Get your propane at Connie's on 114, cheap.

Connie's is on the North side of 114, just west of tater Junction/718, between Rhome and Boyd. She has a big banner behind her barber shop. She lives on site, so you can get propane almost any time. She posts her cell number out by the tank. She does it right, even purges the tank for you if heeded.

Don't do that! This is not a catalytic heater. Carbon monoxide is part of what is being produced as a result and so using in an enclosed space, such as a tent, is not a good idea. The product description states that it is for outdoor use ONLY. Product Summary
This Mr. Heater Tank-Top Propane Heater is great for construction sites, camping and hunting trips, sporting events and more. For outdoor use only. The manual warns that failure to comply with operating instruction may result in carbon monoxide poisoning. It also has comments about use inside of a tent and the resultant carbon monoxide produced. http://www.northerntool.com/images/downloads/manuals/21935.pdf

I hear you, but there is enough draft I don't believe it is an issue. Canvas breathes and the front "door" is a couple flaps that tie together.
Funny(not funny depending on how you look at it). Growing up we had an old 18' travel trailer that was our lease trailer. Furnace didn't work so dad always ran a stove burner on low if it was cold out at night. Had a couple of those little bitty windows up in the bunks and he'd crack one. Said something about not dying because it was old, drafty and he cracked the window. Fast forward a few years and I take some buddies hunting one weekend. We hit the sack and I light a burner. One of my more scientifically minded friends freaked, said that was how people died. I explained to him the draft, etc but honestly had never really thought about it much til then. He probably saved my life going forward somewhere.
I have a coleman catalytic heater I bought for a small hard sided camper I used to have, problem is those 1# tanks don't go very far.

Electric heaters draw a lot of juice, going to be a pita unless you have shore power. People have been heating with fire for thousands of years. Get a catalytic heater and you're good to go. If you have a good sleeping bag you don't even need to run it at night, just light it 15 min or so before you get up.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

Check out the new infrared space heaters. Very energy efficient, although I haven't done the math to see if they can run off an inverter and 12v
