In a life or death situation, which would you want?

Better ammo availability, too. Easy decision.

The one that fits the gun you are really, really proficient with - and will carry all of the time.

Scroll down to the tables and pictures in this link: Some interesting comparisons

The tests are on ballistic gel, not human bodies - but you get the idea.....

9mm
They both aren't fun to shoot in a pocket gun so go big. My opinion he 9's don't jam as much or as finicky

Some people will buy brand & model & capacity, other folk buy caliber and power. If you can't handle the recoil or have different needs then you will choose accordingly.

If have shot .380 in fixed barrel (pure blowback) and the recoil is so harsh, that I'll take a 9x19 with short-recoil any day. The only reason for a .380 is if the gun is smaller--if the same size, take the 9x19.

What have you found that was the same size and weight for both calibers?

Own both. Underwood makes a mighty fine load, carry it in the colt 380 and +p+ speer gold dot for 9mm. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either.
