I have hunted Ca, Id, Mt and currently am living in Alaska and will be wintering in Texas. Is there any where i can go to ride around on an UTV, ATV or AATV that i can hunt rabbits/squirrels/qual or other small game..... Close to Santa Fe/ Galvaston or a few hours away? Hogs, exotics/deer are also on my list to figure out how to hunt. Would prefer a place i can go to camp or just ride the AATV around, not too interested in guided hunts. Any info will be appreciated.

Your best bet would probably be the Sam Houston National Forest north of Houston.

welcome

welcome

You have 2 choices, public land like National Forest mentioned above or private land through leasing by the day or season.

In the area you will be in there is National Forest pretty close by that you could get in miles of ATV trails and small game hunting.

welcome The National Forest is truly a treasure.....

I lived in Huntsville for many years and am quite familiar with the Sam Houston National forest as well as the Davy Crockett a little further north. Also, if you head east there is the Big Thicket Nationall forest that starts a little ways north of Beaumont.

What is the best way to find a day lease or a yearly lease for the days i want to be productive?

You can find some on here. You can find some gems on here that fellow members give us first shot at after family/close friends. Some are really high priced. If you see a place your interested in, ask about the area on the forum and you'll get answers. These guys can help you find what fits your bill. Maybe you ride your atv in the forest or something and you could probably find a person on here that would let you hunt small game/hogs at a minimal price during the off season. Also look at hog hunts on here as well as Craig's list. I think there a guy that does thermal night hunts around you

Look in the outfitter section and lease section. Ask for references before you book or pay a deposit. If they don't provide any cross them off your list.
