Academy has a Heritage Rough Rider .22 on sale for $129.99. Anyone have any experience with these revolvers?

As rough as these are, they have improved quite a bit in the fit-and-finish department over the years. As far as I can recall the chief complaints were due to general lack of finish work on these. I can't recall anyone complaining about breakage or failure to function.

Skip the price tag and get the one with grips that you like. If that happens to be the $129, great. I have found with Heritage, the grips sell the gun due to all other factors generally being the same. And deciding you don't like the grips after the fact then looking for a replacement set you do like ends up costing more than if you had got what you prefer in the first place. Ask me how I know!

For $129 I don't think you will go wrong.

Yeah, the ivory grips on this one aren't my first choice but the price is right. I would prefer steel but it has the aluminum alloy frame.

I have the two cylinder (.22LR/.22mag). Had it a few years, no complaints for the price. I have the longer bbl version and with .22mag it's more accurate than the price would lead one to believe.

Academy usually sells them for $99 on black Friday. I bought one. It is well worth $99. I think for $30 you can buy a mag cylinder now. When I bought mine they had a $20 special on it. It shoots straight as a single action 22 should shoot. Probably have 300 round through mine.

They're reliable and do what you would expect a $120 22 revolver to do. Don't expect a Ruger for 1/3 of the price. Fwiw, Ruger has an alloy frame.

I bought my first rough rider about 20 years ago, has thousands of rounds thru it. This year I replaced the spring and it is good as new. Bought 2 on Black Friday specials for the kids to start with. For the price you can't beat them.

I haven't looked at .22 revolvers in a while. When I saw the Heritage RR, it looked like a Ruger Single Six copy. I thought they were both steel-framed and it was the Ruger Bearcat that was alloy. I don't think I would care if it was alloy or not.

I have had one for years, and bought it with the idea of using as a snake gun. I've carried the old revolver everywhere I've hunted and fished, have eliminated quite a few poisonous snakes with it, and have never taken very good care of it. It still runs like a champ, and, as others have mentioned, for the price, you just can't go wrong.

I have one for plinking and it's real fun. One thing that makes the Academy deal even better is they include a voucher to get a .22 mag cylinder for $30 from the factory.

Nope, single six, Blackhawk, and new vaquero all have an alloy grip frame. The frame itself is steel on the Rugers. I'm not sure on the heritage though.

Step bro had one that i had tto send in for him that was a few months old. Something inside locked up and wouldnt let you pull hammer back or rotate the cylinder. They fixed it fast and sent it back, i guess he hadn't had anymore problems with it, as he hadnt wanted me to send it back again.

I've got the little "shopkeeper" birds head with short barrel. It has the alloy frame that they had "color case" faux finish on it. Slick little pistol with the mag cylinder.

Thanks to all for the information. I guess I'll pick one up. I will definitely ask about the voucher for the mag cylinder.

They're nice for the price, but they sure are a royal PAIN to load and unload. Don't plan on shooting it much... loading it will get old quick.

That said, they're nice if you just want a gun to beat around, leave in a shed, tacklebox, or otherwise not worry about.

Why are they a pain to load or unload? Don't they load/unload like any other single action revolver?

I like the loading/unloading to be slow. It keeps my sons from burning up all my .22 ammo. Makes the shooter take time and make the shot count instead of just ripping off a bunch of rounds.

I do a lot of backyard plinking with mine. With Coloibri rounds, it's about as loud as a child's cap gun. It will make a hole through one side of an aluminum can but not the other. Some safe, cheap fun.

BTW, the Super Colibris are much louder.
