I'm looking at getting a new rifle, after my old faithful 700 was stolen. I have a ton of 25-06 ammo so I'm gonna be going with another one in that caliber. Any of you guys own a Howa? Sounds like a heck of a rifle at a darn good price. Even looks like the rifle & optic packages they offer aren't too bad

I had one in 270 SS and let my son use it and he traded it off for who knows what. my favorite gun until I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard in 308, they are made by Howa. Great shooting guns.

One followed me home last week. 308 w/ the optics. Sold the optics. Going to the range this weekend and give it a whirl. Howa builds the Weatherby Vanguard S2's, same basic rifle with a different stock and a 22" barrel instead of the 24" one's on the Wby's.
All of my Vanguards are sub-moa shooters.

The optics are ok for the casual hunter. If you plan on putting some rounds down the pipe more so than the average 'hunter' out there, toss, or sell, the glass and put something you like on there.

They're good rifles for the money.

Cool, thanks for the validation. I wouldn't say I'm a casual hunter, and I'm a bit of a Vortex snob. Oil's in the crapper right now though, so until we're back to more consistent work, I gotta hold off on unnecessary purchases like $700 optics. For now I just need something that'll consistently hold a group out to 300 or so

I bought one for my daughter. The gun is super accurate[less than MOA] & has functioned perfectly. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I also had a Howa .270 Win. built at the time as a Smith & Wesson 1500, Excellent rifle, I would not hesitate to buy another one. Mine was stolen many years ago and I replaced it with a Model 70, .270 Wby magnum.

I have had a 204 for about 5 years and it will drive tacks. Wouldn't
trade it for anything.

I have a Howa 1500 in 25-06 I purchased at Academy. It came with a Houge stock and it shoots lights out. 22'' barrel. Great gun that I've taken multiple deer and hogs with 100 grain core-lokts.

I have a Howa ranchland 22-250. It's a fine shooter too.

My first rifle I ever bought was a Howa 1500 in 270 Win. I have used it for many years and even take a long range class out to 1K yards with it. It will shoot very well with good ammo.

Ok, I took my Howa 308 out yesterday and ran some rounds through it. Seems it really likes the new 4451 and the 165 gr SGK's. 5 shot group went right at .75" @ 100.
Tried some 180 Nos. BT's out of it and it liked the IMR 4350 putting 3 SGK soft points into a nice 1/2" group.

I need to sand out the barrel channel a bit but other than that, it's gtg laugh

I got the Legacy Sports catalog today, and was looking through there. Now there is another Howa spin-off, the Webley and Scott bolt action rifle, which rivals the Vanguard deluxe model. It looks really nice, and they go for less than a thousand bucks MSRP. One interesting feature is the 5-shot detachable steel magazine that does not protrude from the bottom. The Italian walnut stock is really outstanding.

- A really nice-looking gun that has me re-thinking the idea of a Weatherby Vanguard deluxe. I think the Webley/Scott looks better, it's more my style, and it is slightly less expensive to boot.

Does Timney make a trigger for the Howa? If so, you got it made

They do. I still like the Vanguard better because they have nicer stocks, better triggers and better barrels IMO. But I wouldn't sneeze at a Howa. Would easily take one over an Axis, RAR, 783, etc.

I've got two Weatherby Vanguard "Sub MOA" rifles. One in .308 and the other in 7mm Rem Mag. I believe those became the "S2" models later. Made by Howa and both are great shooters. I had the .308 threaded for the suppressor and use it the time. Never shoot the 7 since I have a Rem 7mag that's threaded for the suppressor.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

For my heavy-barreled Howa in .223, I bought a Rifle Basix target/varmint trigger that breaks cleanly and predictably at one pound.

This is the first Rifle Basix trigger that I have tried... It works well enough that next time I need a trigger, I'll be looking at Rifle Basix first.
