Our place in Three Rivers had some strong winds this past season, strong enough to peel some of the tin off the roofs of a couple blinds. I'm pondering on replacing with shingles on all the blinds so I don't ever have get 20' in the air to replace tin or listen to the tin flap in the wind while hunting. Anybody got a better idea?

Instead of shingles, because of a flat roof, think about rolled roofing. Under the rolled roofing use 30# felt with a metal drip around the edges and asphalt sealant at the laps and edges. Just my opinion.

That tin roof will heat up the blind.

I built a blind in the 80's where I just made a flat roof out of exterior plywood. Sealed all of the edges on the whole blind with flashing. I then sealed all the flashing and the whole roof with roofing tar. I put two coats on the roof for extra protection. You will need a drip edge over each window also. The roof outlasted the rest of the blind. It was finally taken down after almost 30 yrs and replaced with a new blind on the old pipe tower.

STX, so just seal the wood seams with flashing, seal the flashing, then coat the roof with roof tar?

STX, so just seal the wood seams with flashing, seal the flashing, then coat the roof with roof tar? Yes, I did not want any wasp, yellow jackets or bees to get in the blind. I sealed the flashing with the roofing tar/coating also on the corners and edges of the blind after I painted it OD green. I had sliding plexiglass windows also. The walls were plywood and the door was an old home door. The only thing that hurt the blind was after about 15 yrs woodpeckers made a hole in the door when the blind was not used for several years. Owls made a mess of the inside. Had the hole not been in the door the blind might still be there today(with some additional painting it at some point years ago). I would make sure to get the roof on with two thick coats.

I have some rolls of 1/8in plastic I might use instead of the tar. The rolls are 8'x 16' used for a road mat in the plants my buddy gave me I have plenty of might as well use it.

Don't use shingles, a nice breeze will take them off! And a strong wind will take all of them.

What I've used is a rubber roofing. Got it from a commercial roofing contractor. Cut it larger than the roof wrap around edges staple it under. Have it on now for 15 years no problem.
