My last 3 sits ended up with shots, but no hog. Two were 100+ yds at night, rolled the hogs, but never found him (IR not Thermal) and I just missed my last one and couldn't get a second shot off as I was too close with too much scope.

Today I decided I was going to dumb it down. Me, my trusty VersaMax with some slugs and buckshot in my popup about 20-25 yds from the feeder. As the evening light started to go away, sounder came in from a direction I wasn't expected. 5 larger hogs (mostly sows) and about 15 little ones. When they got bunched up on some hand corn I put out, I let a slug and 3 rounds of 00 go... Here's what I got. Shotgun slugs sure do leave a mark...

While I was cleaning one of these in the dark (with a headlight on) I hear a grunt and thought my second one may have found a new life. There were (3) more starting to come in on me. By the time I got my rifle, scope turned on, battery plugged in amd all, they have moved on out of sight.

I have to say the close in action in the pop-up and the shotgun was alot more exhilirating than the 100 yd shots with a rifle. Next time I'm going to wait for the little ones to come in and throw a bunch of 00 at 'em and see how many I can get. Fun afternoon!

Charlie

I use slugs in my DP-12 and they certainly put the hogs down "with authority!" This is a slug I recovered from a recent hog hunt. Definitely a one shot/one kill scenario. As you can see, the wad stayed with the slug!

Awesome. Next time show a pic of the tissue damage from the slug.

Good job Sir! clap

I like 'old fashioned', new fashioned...anything that puts hogs on the ground.

Just another 2 million to go.

Keep after them.

I've got some snares I need to go and put out.

Flint.

BigJoe, this one stayed inside and was under his skin on the exit side. The entry hole was not impressive; the wound path wasn't either; just a 12 gauge sized hole that trashed the piggy's heart.

Here's another one that I shot with the same kind of slug while he was running. Sloppy shot on my part, but it does show the potential damage from these beasts.

Sounds like it should be exciting! Looking forward to photos. Good luck!

What slug are you using?
