I accidentally bought another tikka. I'm going to have it threaded so I can slap my suppressor on because that what I do. I read that long action rounds need a "full length" barrel burn all the powder. Is this true or can I chop this dude to 16-1/2 or 18ish......
yep, sure, why not

I'm laughing! It's all I can do to avoid accidentally buying another Tikka. As for the barrel, I'd cut it to desired length and use a relatively fast powder. Somebody with Quickload can suggest a powder.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Loss of barrel equals loss of velocity. Loss of barrel equals easier to swing the rifle and a stiffer barrel that will "like" a wider range of powder charges.
You decide what is more important to you.

For the best performance,a 24" barrel is best for the 25-06. Cutting the barrel shorter just looses velocity, and increases the muzzle blast. A 16.5-18 inch barrel would sure put out a large flame when fired.

I have 2 25-06's both with 22" barrels. You aren't n trouble there on current length. Though if you're going to 'can' it, I'd go no shorter than 18". Figure on losing 100-150 fps on your load - basically, dropping it to a 257 Bob. The can will/should take care of the 'muzzle blast' and will definitely make it quieter.

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.
Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

I'm in trouble then because it's 22" and change from the factory.... A friend of mine got a Tikka 300 Win Mag, and it is 22" It didn't make the speed it could have at 26", but it's no slouch. You'll be fine.
