I am going to my lease this weekend, plus a few extra days, and have a question
I bought some dog proof traps in hopes of getting a few coons
I have never set traps, have been shown how tho
My question is this, if I go to my blind to hunt hogs, and by chance have a coon in a trap, would it effect the hogs coming in?
I don't want to shoot the coon just before I set up and scare off the hogs
If I leave it until I get done hunting, would it keep hogs from coming to my feeder?

I don't know jack about hogs, so can't help there, but if you have a coon in the dukes, he will still be there when you're ready to pull out (unless he breaks a foot off, or your chain comes loose)

I've set them in the evening to come back in the morning and found 2 raccoons trapped. Did not see an animal..

Maybe relocate your traps a little further away from your feeder on a trail.

Also on the Dukes.. I've found that placing a big marshmallow on the lever works best, not below or above.. This makes them actually have to pull the lever to set it off.. I've had some smart ones pull bait from below the lever never setting them off. We'll also set a few small marshmallows outside the trap for a visual.. A little oil (Pam or olive oil) is good.

I have video clips where a hog and raccoons enters trap and paying no attention to the struggling caught-in-trap raccoon.

From what I see, a raccoon lasts about 36 to 48 hours after being caught.

probably the hogs won't care if there is a coon trapped there or not. to be on the safe side though just don't put your coon sets directly under the feeder. either that, or hand throw some corn in areas further around from the feeder. that way hogs that come in will have something to keep them in the area without having to be right next to the trapped coon.

They won't care if you shoot them or not. Just do it with a little rimfire so it's not real loud. I have had a few times where I have shot a hog and an hour later more hogs show up. So I don't think they care either way.

I set four duke dp traps this past saturday evening and had two caught by daylight. Im gonna keep setting till problem is solved(i hope)

A trapped coon shouldn't bother the pigs (unless they're spooky). I wouldn't kill the coons or make a presence near the feeder until you are done pig hunting. Pig hunt, and if you have coons kill them when you are done. Coon traps work best at the feeders. Personally, I wouldn't leave a trapped coon more than 24 hrs. If you're gonna pig hunt on that feeder the next day then whack the coon and get out. Just pour a little corn where the coon was and you'll be fine. Pigs are used to coon scent, and blood is not a big deal. Remember it's your scent that's a problem. Minimize your scent. FME this is especially important where pigs are already nervous about coming in. Scent control, it matters...good luck.

Cut open the coons and leave them for the hogs

Use dry cat food. It's not near as sticky or ant attracting as marshmallows.

I think a live coon on in a trap will make the hogs suspicious of something. I know the deer won't touch the protein feeders when I have a coon in the trap.
