So the shotgun thread has me ready to turn my old 870 Express back up gun into sick little HD rig. It's black synthetic with old spray paint mostly rubbed off and actually looks pretty sweet. Has a vent rib and I love the way they look when cut down. I've probably run a good 2k+ shells through it and know it very well.
Plan on keeping the stock but would like to add the following and WELCOME advice/suggestions:
Mag extension - prob 5 round - who do you like?
Side saddle shell holder
Rail system over receiver - I have an eotech I might throw on it (looks like they make a shell holder with rail system in one)

I found this a few months ago. This is a real interesting video on very basic tactical shotgun training for home defense. It it, he recommends a basic pump with a full buttstock and a side saddle shell carrier. It's a little long but very interesting.
“He grouped his last five shots right in the center of the bull’s-eye. Then I showed him my technique of scattering shots randomly around the target because, as I explained, you never know which way the deer might jump just as you pull the trigger.”

I have a light, Wilson Combat mag extension, and a fiber optic bead on mine. Before you cut it down, check out some patterns at 30', cylinder bore vs modifies vs full. I ended up having my cut down barrel threaded for a choke and shoot it modified. That keeps all 27 #4 buck pellets on a sheet of paper at 20 yds. It would have been better for me, price and function wise, to have just bought a second barrel.
I use one of the elastic shell holders on the stock and a plain nylon sling. I've dispatched lots of armadillos and skunks with this setup, even got a coyote messing around with the dogs about a month ago.
