Catch poles were about 50' too short. Wonder why they , the game warden, didn't sedate the cat first. Looks like it would have been a lot less stressful on man and beast.

From the video description "Ekins said they prefer to use animal tranquilizer darts when possible, but that tranquilizers have to be kept in a main DWR office and he can't always get some when he is called to remote areas." My guess is that he must have been too far away from the main office to retrieve the tranquilizer before the animal injured itself.

Yep, trapper left him high and dry and he stood the test. Trapper has pea size ones.

He's most certainly not doing it for the money! He's definitely got some cojones of steel.

Yep, trapper left him high and dry and he stood the test. Trapper has pea size ones. ^^^^^^^^ Agreed! GW has more patience than me. Trapper was a 'goofball', one of those folks that will get others hurt while he comes out of it unscathed. Thought the cat was going to 'choke down' before the trapper finally got a hind foot in the noose, good grief fella, get in there and help or go home. GW was way too nice to the guy. Had to laugh when the cougar struggled and broke the limb. Trapper takes off like a rabbit, GW has to regain the catch pole and control the cat. Did the trapper think he was going to 'outrun' a cougar? GW did the correct thing. If the trapper is that spooky he needs to be doing something else.

Interesting that the trapper reacted like that when he, by definition, is trapping wild animals. I know he isn't normally trapping cougars, but I thought he would have a little more nerve than that.
Great video.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

Certainly the GW had more experience with this type of activity than the trapper. I wouldn't be too hard on the trapper. The GW knows what he's doing, for the trapper this is probably his first time. Still, my hat's off the the warden for his professional handling of a difficult task.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

I'm gonna say "Nice work" to both.
The GW, what a pro he is. The trapper, he could've just dispatched the cat and moved on. Instead, he got help and got the cougar freed. Cheers to both!
