Going on a predator hunt this weekend near Brownwood, and wondering if I happen to hit some coyotes, what I could do with them? Are there any fur traders that would take the pelts? Or just leave 'em?

You can sell them, but unless you have a good number of furs, the amount of time put in and low prices right now it isn't worth it for the average Joe. Take your pictures and leave em where they fall unless the ranch has a gut pit.

I leave them for the hogs, leave the hogs for the coyotes.

Hang 'em on the fence, away from the gate!

I payed upwards of $15 for the bigger nice fully furred light colored coyotes this year, most are going to be around that $5 range though. Very easy to have a nice coyote and one that's not worth a penny if your not sure what to look for, theve already starting to rub and break right now so the fur is worthless at this time, coyote tend to prime early. Nov-jan is when they are best. I also buy undamaged skulls a well $2-3 for the skulls. So even for you guys that shoot a bunch of varmits throughout the year just cut the heads off and meet me at one my stops next year, easy way to make a couple hundred bucks just by cutting the heads off if you save em all year

Thank you for posting up. This is more or less what I was looking for, someone who actually deals in the trade. I'll let my buddy know so that if he makes it a practice of hunting them to keep the heads. What's a good way to process the skulls so that they can be kept, but not rot and stink?

Would you elaborate? I understand why away from the gate (because they'll rot and stink), but why hang them on a fence to begin with?

It's just an old tradition. Seldom see it any more.

For saving skulls for me just kind of rough skin the head the best you can mostly just get the ears off an cut the head off as close to the skull as you can and freeze

As long as I have hunted in Mason, the cattlemens assoc. has had a bounty on Coyotes & Bobcats. I assume it is still in place. All you need is the paperwork from the landowner and the ears to claim. Can hang the rest of him from the fence.... aim
