We’ve had a lot of rain here the past two days.

Needed to go check my game cams this morning. Mrs. Flintknapper and our ever present Dachshund wanted to go along. Decided I’d go in the back way just to check on things…since I rarely go that way.

Maybe not such a good idea:



Told my wife “It’s your turn to get the gate”. She just gave me THAT look that all married men recognize.
We went around the other way!

I had flashbacks of ‘TexasLawMan’s’ Land Cruiser half sunk in a similar looking gate crossing. I have an 80 Series Land Cruiser also (locked front and rear) but this route seemed like a patently bad idea. By myself, maybe, but with Wife and Prized Dachshund aboard, nope!

Saw a single Hen Turkey under one feeder. Haven’t seen a Turkey on this property in 15 years. I’ve been hitting the coyotes, bobcats and hogs pretty hard the last couple of years…so maybe that is helping.

Wow, you made a wise choice. I remember the Lawmans thread - he was very fortunate to get out of that situation.

I had a client one time that had a Land Cruiser or similar SUV, told me it was called the Beast... I wouldn't go down a muddy road in my truck.

He came back a few hours later and tried it in the beast....

A couple of hours later I pulled him out in the old farm truck, from a long ways off with a lot of chain.

My advice is avoid the muddy places

It isn't. Getting through...not a problem. I've had the Cruiser in headlight deep water before. Just a lot easier to go back down the road a half mile and use the other pasture entrance. Don't really like getting the floorboards all wet.

I've got '70 model Bronco Half Cab for that.

Wise choice. I once had an 82 K-5 Blazer lifted with mudders that NEVER got stuck. Stock, that thing was a beast in the mud. Tore through more mud holes than I can remember, pulled lord knows how many trucks out... dang I miss that truck..... I got over confident one day, and had my wife & two little kids on board going fishing. I chose the low road just for fun and buried that truck for the first time. I knew better, but made the choice. Couldn't open the doors for the mud, water came in, we were sinking. It was hot, lots of mosquitoes, stunk like hell, crying babies & a pizzed off wife for hours. If there was one day that I could erase from my memory that day would be one of them. I still love slinging mud, but tend to stop and think a little bit more now.

Throw a pair of waders in the truck, make sure they are the wife's size
