Shes 9 weeks old and a tornado, but i crazy about her.

Need everyones suggestions or methods on how they have crate trained. Call me lucky as hell, but every lab i have had (4), have taken to the kennel in hours????

Great looking dog. Do most Drathaars naturally range pretty close? I've never known anyone that had one. I like the beards though. How do they do in the heat?

Owners ive spoken to, and the breeder told they range fairly close especially compared to gsp's. They have a thick coat and do very well in cold, but like a lab need to be careful working in hot weather.

Congrats on the new pup Jorge, what kennel is she from? Are you planning on running her through the system?

Closer than GSPs, mines no more than 50 to 75 yards in the south texas brush.

They don't like warm weather at all for the most part. It's tuff having a furry coat in Texas.

Taken to the kennel? You mean like it, learn to put up with it and except it,house breaking or what?

Mine does not like it but has never been a yelped or whiner. He just accepts it.

Good looking put Jorge. From the size of those feet she is going to be a good size dog.

Yeah, its her 2nd day with us and she just does not like being in her kennel with door closed. She'll go in and eat then get out. She screams bloody murder when i put her in for ahort bits of time, and let her out once she gets quiet and settles down. Been doing more reading and i guess its shear luck that all my labs have loved their kennel. Its almost like the kennel was instinctively their safe haven and wanted to be in it 24/7. Ive only had labs so my points of reference are only in those terms. This is going to be as much fun learning for me as i hope it will be for her.

At the beach this afternoon. She already likes the water and went for a quick swim.

Every pup I've had hated the crate at first.

In the past I just put them in and then put up with the screaming. This last pup I took some advise and put the crate/kennel up on two chairs where she could see me at night and I could stick a finger through the door. In a two or three days I moved it to the floor and it's been great ever since.

Never let her out when she's crying and do not giver her attention when she's crying. Wait for a moment of silence even a short one to open the crate.

Thats what i read about not giving in how frustrated and annoyed me or the wife is. I doubt the wife will let me hang it, but thats a good idea. Thanks for the advice.

On a side note we took a walk by the creek and man she has a nose. I saw where a coon scurried off her nose was to the ground and pointed, it was really awesome. Then did same thing when she heard an owl across the creek several times. Im really looking forward to bird season.
