I'm thinking about a short .22 build. Does anybody have experience with one? Bolt or semi auto ? I will probably get a can for it. Any experience with the tacsol sbx? I like the Ida of it but the only bolt gun I see is 77/22

I would be starting from scratch

I've got 2 a 10/22 with a 10" barrel and a AF with a 5.5" barrel. They're a lot of fun. If you're gonna go with a 10/22 and run a suppressor all the time the SBX makes sense.

I have a cmmg 22 upper I had Morgan cut the barrel down on. Works perfect and it's also suppressed.

This is an old pic of my 22 AR with 5.5" barrel and suppressor tucked under a 7" Fortis rail. I have since added a dust cover and forward assist.

I have a tacsol sbx 10/22, it shoots great and is very light.

I have a 5.5" 10/22 with Kidd barrel and a 5" suppressor. One of the most fun guns I own

Pick your poison.....Remington 597 AAC-SD SBR with 10" barrel, Custom Ruger 10/22 with TacSol SBX barrel, and AR 22 SBR with 5" TacSol Upper.

Some of my favorite guns to shoot.....

Tacsol kestrel upper. Not 100% on reliability

If you want the barrel to keep standard velocity ammo subsonic so it is quiet with a suppressor you need to keep it no longer than 5.5", but 5" is better. That's why I cut my AR 22 upper to 5"....no sonic crack with any 22 ammo.

That is good to know.
So heavy barrel host , chop and thread to 5" or so, and all ammo will work not just subs?

Will a 10/22 cycle correctly?

I like the 10/22 type magazines, is there a 10/22 ar chassis out there that would work and still use the 10/22 mags?

How accurate are the 5-6" barrels? I'm looking for turtle hunting accuracy to 40-75 yards

I run CCI Standard velocity ammo through a suppressed Savage MK2 FVSR 16" barrel and I have never had a sonic crack from any rounds. The only thing heard is the firing pin (bolt action) and the target being hit. Standard velocity is subsonic.

Correct, I should have said all ammo including high velocity will stay subsonic in a 5" barrel.
