setting up a new lease and need to get some ladder treestands in place, prefer the two man model so my son and I can hunt together (or my daughter and I).

Anyone have any feedback about the Muddy nexus stand regarding set up, safety, durability?

ALso looking at the X-stand Jayhawk, big bubba, or new talon stands and have same questions about set up, safety, and durability.

By safety, I realize I need to have a harness on while in the stand but what I am looking for is the ease of safely using the stand (stability, do you feel like you are about to fall out of it if you stand up, ease of raising lowering gun rest, ease of using things in the blind, etc).

I don't know anything about the brands you mentioned, but I'm sure they are better than the cheap one I got from Academy. Once it's set up, it feels plenty secure. I didn't put the rifle rest on mine since I bow hunt out of it. Mine isn't very comfortable, but standing and sitting feels fine. Take your seat cushion with you when you leave, for some reason the squirrels think they are tasty. I got the two seater so my wife or grandson can join me, but it's pretty crowded with two. They take two people and an extra ladder to set up, but it's nice to be in a tree. Good luck.

Iv always like the Game winner stands... nothing fancy but good and sturdy

I have only used the one man type stands but have killed many deer from them. I use the nylon ratcheting type straps to secure them to the tree and replace them once they become weathered from the elements.

I would think extra care must be taken with the two man type stands since the center of gravity, once two people are in the stand, might be offset from the centerline of the tree. If one person is a lot heavier than the other, the stand might have a tendency to rotate in that direction if not well secured.

We use these or something close to it. All were under a $100. Takes 2 to 3 people to set up. Just make sure the the tree is big enough for the v. After you rachet strap it down, it won't move.

Anytime you set up a tree stand improperly, you have safety issues, be it a 1 man stand or 2. We prefer 2 man tree stands as they allow for 2 people or 1 person with room to spare for lunch and other gear. No worries at all about centerline issues.

Have built my own Ladder stands, could tell ya the dangers of home-made tree stands... BIL was looking at one & i tested it out found some flaws... He gave it back... Safety is key, if ya don't feel safe it take the enjoyment out of it... As many have posted, center of gravity would be main issue, on my climbing & chain on stands used bunjy cords ta keep stand quiet while moving threw woods... Then around tree for extra safety when set up... Best wishes & Safe hunting...

Be sure there are drain holes in the seat.
Where I hunt they have three tripod stands with no holes and lots of cold water.
I went to the barn, got the battery drill and now they drain.

Academy sells the summit brand of 1.5 and 2 person ladder stands. I picked up a 1.5 last season and really liked it, roomy, sturdy, large tubing, and easy to put up. I'll pick up another one if they go on sale. Best thing of all was the platform was huge so I was real comfortable standing up and had some room to switch positions and not worry about falling out. Always wear a harness!

You didn't mention them but you might want to check out Millennium's ladder stands. They are a little pricey but they are solid, safe and comfortable.

I tend to stay in my stands a long time and these are very, very comfortable and have so far proven very durable.
