Saw my first fake suppressor this weekend at the range. I was out at my local range over the weekend testing some loads I built up when a guy came over and asked me about my Harvester. We got to talking and he said his AR that he just bought with a suppressor on it (more to this in a bit), was just as loud as the guy's AR next to him (without suppressor). We got to looking at it and sure enough, it was a fake suppressor. He said he bought it from some gun store in Waco (he didn't know the name of it) and the guy that sold him his "new to him AR" said that it had a suppressor on it. I quickly googled "fake suppressor" right there and sure enough, there are companies that sell fake suppressors. He was pretty disappointed, but I informed him that you cant simply walk in and buy one off the shelf. There's a process to getting one. Just when you think there's too much tacticool stuff out there, something else pops out of the wood works

Fake cans have a real purpose other than just looking the part. I posted a pic(last year) of my AK with an 11" barrel on here with a "permantlety" attached fake can. There was some mouth breather who chimed in about it, obviously not knowing the reason I had it on. It is very common to use a fake can to get the length to 16" while waiting on an SBR stamp. That way, you don't have to shoot it as a pistol or with a sigbrace...in my case I was able to go ahead and install rear trunion and stock, so I could shoot it with a real stock. After my stamp came in, fake can came off and on went a YHM QD flash suppressor that works with my REAL .30 cal suppressor.

I never feel sorry for someone that buys a gun and can't even tell you the name of the store. I know we're all gun owners, but c'mon...

Fake cans, er... fake suppressor cans, have been around for a while. I guess they are considered another type of flash hider. I never saw the use for them. Would draw attention from the game warden if they showed up.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

No expert here, but back in the day wasn't it common for Uzis and Mac 10/11s to sport fake suppessors.

Where does the line between looks like a suppressor and is a suppressor get drawn? I am guessing being stamped "fake can" does not count. Does it have to be hollow? How do you prove it is has no form of baffling if it is sealed/welded? Sounds like a legal nightmare if you got on the wrong side of the wrong LEO.
