Double Naught Spy and I met up at the orchards for a little hunting and to compare notes. He has an Armasight zeus that has not been updated and I just got my identical scope back after having it updated. The attached video is not a perfect scientific sample to show the differences, but I highlights the fact that the firmware update really fixes the "washout" or "whiteout" issues many people were experiencing. The washout would make it hard to see the reticle and the surrounding environment. To me the update is well worth being without the scope for a bit. Between shipping and the update I was only without my scope for about 10 days. That is a pretty quick turnaround time. The second half of the video I turned my zeus equipped rifle over to a friend to shoot. He doesn't hunt much and is unfortunately getting stationed in New Jersey. I felt it was only right to make sure he experienced shooting hogs with a thermal scope before he left Texas. After the hunt he said he has to get back to Texas as soon as he can! I hope the video helps show what the update can do. I didn't play with the settings too much from what Armasight set them at after the update. I think the image will be a little better after I learn how to adjust the gain and autogain control speed during feature outings. Enjoy!

What is the software build version # for the update? Let me clarify, if I were to be in the market how would I know if the update in loaded or not.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

It definitely looks like it reduces flicker and the whiteout. One thing is I still notice a huge difference in the detail you see in an IR Defense vs the Armasight. It is like there is a blurring in the surrounding area. Maybe it is just what you get used to, but it has kept me away from the Armasight product. They both still kill hogs... Good job on the vid! Thanks for sharing!

Dfwroadkill,
I think you are right about a little bit of blur in this video. I didn't bother to focus the scope much before I handed it off to Jordan and the lone boar was fuzzy too. I'm not the best at getting the adjustments just right. The IR hunters do all the adjustments on their own at the expense of battery life and degraded video out quality. Each scope has trade offs, but all will kill hogs in the pitch black.

I use external batteries that run scopes 20 hours, give or take....so no worries about battery life... Definitely trade offs with all of them. No one has built the perfect scope. DNS and I have discussed that a few times. Thanks again for sharing!

It's a shame yall did not pick something like one of the horses and just record side by side in focus. The updated unit was out of focus and the brightness level was set way to dark in my opinion. It's really a bad representation of the scope.
One of the advantages of the armasight scopes is they give you the freedom to adjust for the be
st image, at the same time it will allow you to mess up the image as well.

I can see your point Lawman. My main focus of this video was to show the difference in the washout and autogain.

Is the firmware update something needed on all the Armasight scopes? Did you do it yourself or is it required to be sent in?

You have to send it in to Armasight. Turn around time seems to be about 2.5-3 weeks from the 3 folks I have heard from on this.
