I watch these deer make the scrapes. They nose the leaves on the branch (when it has leafs), scratch the ground and then leak on it. The ones I see do it are not dominate bucks by any means. So, what are they doing and what do I know from finding these? Other than the fact that deer pass through...

There are doe fawns that have their first heat this time of year. Bucks that pick up a scent will freshen or create scrapes around her.

Some bucks will make scrapes year round and keep them fresh. All it takes is a weather change or rain to cool it off just a bit and they get freshen up scrapes. Some scrapes are more communal and become very large in size. You will find those scrapes around feeders or food plots on the downwind side where the prevailing wind is blowing from the food source towards the scrape. I have seen these scrapes be 10-15' across in size. Great place to find sheds this time of the year.
