I'm looking into a ATN Thor 336 or a Armasite Zeus 336 3x. Right know it seems there is about a $1000 difference in price. What are some of the pro's to paying the extra $$$$?

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I'm in the same boat as you and trying to decide on a thermal setup. Looks like the Pulsar xd50a is getting the nod and some good reviews from folks. The 2 you have listed are on my short list as well. I'd like to hear some pros and cons on these 2 as well.

Does the Armasight have built in recording? Neither unit does. On the 3x models, the Thor comes with a 30mm lens and the Zeus comes with a 42mm lens that is 49% larger. With the Thor, you have to turn on the video out feature each time you want to do video, but not so on the Zeus where it is on all the time and you don't have to remember to turn it on. The Thor has manual NUCing where you have to manually cover the lens yourself and press the buttons to initiate the process and it is automatic on the Zeus (but you can initiate it as well and don't have to cover the lens. I don't see any 30 hz Thors listed for sale, only 60 hz. 60hz will give you as slightly better general image, a much better image during fast action, but will use more battery power. The Zeus can be had in 30 or 60hz. 60hz costs more.

Is the Zeus the better option to go with in this case?

No thermal scope has built in recording.
When you consider the price with both scopes being 60 Hz models, the list price difference between the two is $434.00. Give me the Armasight with the video out always on, auto NUCing and the money savings.
About recording... I believe it is important. Just like the military does AAR's (After Action Reviews), the recording of your hunts can illustrate to you how you are performing. You can learn a lot from it. While it is fun to share the video, learning from it helps you to be a better shooter and thus, a better hunter.

ATN's site says the Thor has onboard recording, that's why I asked.

ATN's site says the Thor has onboard recording, that's why I asked. Not on their thermals. The new HD thermals will have it, but aren't being delivered yet. I would be extremely leery about signing on to that product. Emphasize extremely.

I will be trying out one of the new 5-20 X-sights though. I'm a glutten for punishment.

This.I have an IR Hunter Mark II and a XD50S....the XD50 picture is actually pretty dang good. In my experience the biggest difference in the higher resolution is when you get out past 200 yards. For inside 150 yards the difference doesn't seem to be as noticeable, however the 640 does have a sharper image.
