Back in the 80s, it seemed "deep curl" blackbucks were all the rage. The Texas Exotics Record book used a measurement that went along the outside the curl to get length. Maybe it's just me, but it seems in the past 5-10 yrs or so, I'm seeing a lot more basically straight horn BB with little no curl and most folks now refer to the straight tape measurement system. It would make sense if the straighter horn BB were now preferred as breeders bc the deep curl BB don't straight line measure as long. Am I off my rocker here?

Length over girth seems to be all the rage these days.

Does the girth have anything to do with age?
Are they just shooting them younger?

That's why I shot the one I did last week with GRanch aka Bobby Grieger cause of the big deep curls he's got.

5 curl+ blackbuck are still the rage and bring the most $$...in Texas, there are numerous scoring/record systems. SCI, which is really the only one that really matters, still measures around the curls. Go for the ones with curls! The 5 curl blackbuck that was a monster at the YO sale a couple of years ago went for around $6,500.

I prefer the multiple deep curls.

laugh

I was referring more to the depth of the curls vs mass. Seems a lot of BB these days are basically straight horn without much depth of curl no matter how many curls it has. I know when hunting kudu, the African PHs really seem to emphasis the depth of the curl.

Curl makes the BB unique... I myself wouldn't care to shoot them with not much curl.... IMO....
