A kinda interesting article showing the different states that have adopted a state firearm. What do ya'll think would be the best firearm to be called "The Texas State Firearm"? http://www.chron.com/news/nation-world/a....php#item-38488

A few years ago Field and Stream named Texas' firearm as the Walker Colt. I thought it fairly appropriate.

Even though it's named after another state, my vote would go to the Kentucky Long Rifle. It was the most effective weapon used to defend the Alamo, probably second only to the cannon. Actually, the cannon might be pretty good too.

From a historical perspective it would have the be the Walker. The gun (and thus the Dragoons that came after it) wouldn't have existed if not for the Texas Rangers.

I have to go with the Walker Colt. Gus McCrae can't be wrong. Besides a whiskey, I think we will require a little respect. . . .

Not being from Texas when I think of a Texas firearm it is usually a .257 Weatherby Mag or 25-06 that comes to mind.

The Walker Colt would be justified for sure and I can't argue it was a game changer in our State's history. I am more of a rifle person though. A Sharps Carbine would be one nomination. Better yet as another game changer would be the Model 1873 that replaced the Sharps use with the Frontier Texas Rangers. One of my grandfathers served as a Frontier Ranger in Young county during the transition so probably carried each at different times during the Indian Wars.

Sounds like most folks are going with the Walker Colt. I have to admit, it's a pretty good choice. Looking into it, it makes me want to pick up one of the Uberti replicas. Might be a real fun gun for close range deer or hog too.

Without the original order of Walker Colts, Colt firearms was heading into bankruptcy.
