I am testing out some new Berger VLD-Hunting 130 gr. Grendel ammo. I must admit to being a little surprised to walk up on my downed boar only to find him still alive some 10 minutes after shooting him despite what I thought should have been an immediately lethal shot. Butchery revealed the extent of the damage, massive. The Berger round entered behind the ear and exited the other side. The exit wound was large, larger than I normally get with Hornady SST ammo. Cutting back the skin revealed a cavernous amount of destruction. The ammo performed as designed. I just can't figure out why the hog wasn't dead, LOL.

Looks like crosshairs were on neck at time of shot, bullet lands a bit left in the ear hole.
I hope you can catch up to another 170+ lb hog and drive that bullet into the shield to see what the VLD can do there.

Doesn't look like it gives you a real reason to switch to a round that is even less available. Hogs always amaze me with their toughness and resilience. With that massive hole, you would think the shock would have shut him down.

Nice video. I am a big fan of the VLDs however I have found that there is minimal to no blood. Have you experienced this?

Looks like it worked. He didn't run off or attack you No, he didn't run off, but he wasn't dead either. He wasn't even unconscious. For that shot placement, that was not the result I was expecting. What barrel length? What kind of velocity? 20" and as noted in the video, about 2400 fps. Nice video. I am a big fan of the VLDs however I have found that there is minimal to no blood. Have you experienced this? This was my first hog killed with VLD-Hunting.

No doubt about it, hogs are tough creatures. Nice shooting, great video! Thanks! --
