Is 22in too short for a 6.5CM, threaded for can, as a field gun and some range time? Also not sure about contour.

22 with a can should still get you in the 2760-2820 range with a 140 grain. I wouldn't go lighter than a rem varmint contour personally.

Mine is 16.25" and I get 2715 without my suppressor with 120 A-max. I went with M24 profile.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

My 25" pushes a 140 gr. at 2800 fps MV. 22" should make a 140 gr. go 2700-2750 fps.
The heavier the suppressor, the heavier the barrel needs to be for the barrel to tolerate repeated fire. You can get about any barrel to shoot exactly where you want to, with a suppressor, on the cold bore shot. As the barrel heats, it also creates a more pronounced sine wave. The heavier the suppressor, the more the whole system will string shots.

I have a 22 Inch JP barrel on a 6.5 Creedmoor. I shot it yesterday with a Magnetospeed hung on the barrel while shooting thru a Crony as well. 140gr ELD X were running 2840's average. The reason I ran it over two was the prior day my Magnetospeed said with a .8gr more powder I was running 2900fps so I dropped the charge (no visual issues on brass)just out of caution and tried again. Grouped well at the lower charge so plan to tune from there. Sure wish my LabRadar would show up.... Then I could shoot over 3 Chrono's

My 6.5 Creedmoor has a Bartlein cut to 22" and I am running an Omega on it. My charge is 42.3 of H-4350 with a 140 AMAX and I am getting about 2775 out the end of the suppressor. I could run it faster, but it seems to be on a good node right there.

Jon Beanland built my rifle. Originally it had a 25" barrel, that was before I had my trust and owned any suppressors. Later after I started shooting suppressed, I took it back to Jon to cut it. He feels that 22" is near the perfect length for the 6.5 Creed shooting suppressed, for balancing bullet speed and rifle handling. His opinion, FWIW.

Thanks for the great comments, I have a Specwar 762 waiting for it's walking papers so I'm thinking along a light varmint contour?
