 Dead Rats on last Quail hunt?

I did a last weekend Quail hunt and came across several dead Rats, any information other than just nature. I had a friend with me and we both came across a few…Oh! WE DID NOT TOUCH!
Location is Northeast Howard Co.

Last quail hunt I went on in uvalde there were a lot of dead birds. But it was because a 2 and 3/4" hail storm went through a day before.

i put poison out on my place , I see dead mice & rats around
maybe there's a bait station nearby

Early in the season, it was not uncommon for me to run over 10+ rats and mice just driving to the stand. I didn't realize i was actually running them over till i was driving back out after the morning hunt and noticed all the dead rats laying in the road. Were these on the road or out in the pasture?

Question could poision rats that get eaten by quail who will eat dead things make the quail die?

I knocked 3 birds down on a covey rise last fall and had found 2 and was praising my female for bringing in the 3rd when I realized she had found (and it looked like she killed) a rat. Looked like a quail from a distance. I'm sure she wondered why the praise turned to scorn!
