I borrowed this box at the beginning of season for my 2 dogs. It has worked fine, but I need to get my own for next season. I really like/need the top storage. I think I would like deeper holes for the times I go with a buddy and he has 2 dogs also. Any suggestions on good brands and models? Thanks!

I have tried Diamond Deluxe and Owens boxes. I prefer the Owens. I haul three dogs to a side 535 miles and they have plenty room. Well made and plenty ventilation.

Mine is either an Owens or Deerskin, I know my topper is a deerskin. I personally don't like doubling them up in a slot. It's a fight waiting to happen imo. It happened to me and a friend of mine the first night we pulled into Kansas, got a little bit ugly trying to get them apart. Two puppies or young dogs are probably ok, but even the nicest, friendliest dogs can get a little grumpy when they're cold and tired. Just my 2cents

I like one that is no wider than 48 inches. That way it will slide between you wheel wells, so you can use it at the tailgate or against the cab, and it will also fit into all UTVs except a Ranger. I had mine made at Kline Line, but it has no storage.

If there's a chance you are going to have four dogs or more, would you consider a trailer? A trailer will also provided the needed storage.

I'm thinking about this one. Can I haul 2 dogs in each compartment?

You can haul and hunt four dogs with that box but I don't like to sleep four in there.

You can hunt and haul 4 dogs in there IF they get along.

Thats the box I have and absolutely love it. There is more than enough room for 2 dogs in each compartment (like said above, as long as they get along) the boxes are huge.

Actually mine is 48" wide so not the exact same box. Will never understand why Polaris wont design the Ranger with 48" clear width bed.

Would you be able to give me the dimensions of each hole?

This one is a 48 inch by 30 inch.. It's easily loaded to my pickup. It will hunt six and sleep 3.

I bought 2 Ruff Tuff kennels http://www.rufftoughkennels.com/ and really like them. I bought mediums for my cockers. They are plenty big for them. They sleep in them every night. You can buy a kit to put 2 or 3 together and add stuff to the top of them. Might be an option if you don't have to have Diamond plate.

This is the one I have.
http://www.owens-pro.com/buy-now/owens-p...td-vents-detail

I had a dog trailer that I gave $200 for, I used it for 4-5 years, pulled it all over West Texas and Oklahoma, I traded that trailer for this dog box plus $400 cash. I think I did pretty good on that trade.

I would strongly recommend not doubling dogs up for trips in the truck. Doubling them up in a mule is different when hunting but doubling them up in a box in a truck is just a fight waiting to happen in my opinion.

I have a box like Rustbucket but without dividers. I transport 4 dogs, 2 males and 2 females for six hours without stopping and no fights.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

I have just about decided on an Owens box with the following dimensions:
48" wide
45" deep
26" tall

Dog compartments 18" tall, 24" wide and 44" deep

I figured that it will be used in my truck 90% of the time and only 10% of the time in the Ranger. Also, the dogs will have to sleep in it because all my trips are overnight trips . With the 44" deep dimension I will have to leave the tail gate open on the Ranger but I guess that's ok. I'll just have to strap it down.
ConchMan, I appreciate what you say about not doubling up, but I'm gonna have to make it work until,it doesn't.

Are you sure that box will fit in the Ranger? Those dang corners roll in at the tailgate and cost you about 4".

Poisonivie, you may be correct. If anyone has any real world experience with this I would love to know. Thanks!

I don't think you can get a 48" wide box in a Ranger bed at all. That is the box I have and we love it for the truck and used it in the Mule for a while too until we got the 4 dog box for the mule. I have been doubling dogs up for years and have never had a problem other than a growl here and there. If I did, I would know who is the cause of it and the issue would be fixed real quick. I don't put up with fighting between my dogs and they learn that real quick.
