This is my hunt with my friend Dave Hillary. Dave, an Army Ranger, was seriously wounded in Iraq in which, among other things, he received brain and spinal cord injuries. Through his recovery process he decided to start a non-profit organization to help other soldiers returning with a variety of injuries and issues. Veterans Xtreme Adventures or VXA (www.veteransxtremeadventures.org) was formed. Dave has a big heart and his organization is growing. 96-97% of all donations goes to the veteran. That is top shelf. Anyway, it was a great time. I really enjoy spending time with Dave. Love to hear him laugh.
He was shot in the head and a round ended up behind his right eye. He has a difficult time looking in the scopes and has to adjust the angle to fit his vision. It's just hard, but he said he wants to accomplish things to show the insurgents that they didn't get him. Very determined man. He was at the tip of the spear and his injuries occurred 60 miles south of Baghdad in 2003... Long recovery and rebuilding process...
I have been fortunate to take some guys out with VXA. Most have been ex-special forces of one kind or another. Yessir...they can generally shoot. Well, there was that one machine gunner.
This Friday I'll have Jesse Diana out. He's an ex-Marine with combat tours. He has a group working with returning vets called Camp Valhalla. He has put heart and soul into helping vets. I'm so honored to spend time with him and will be taking some of his guys out.
