This is only about the 6.5 Creedmoor in a bolt action for deer hunting. What bullet do you feel is the most satisfactory for use under 300yds? More often then not try to stay within 200yds. This is the bullet only not factory ammo as I enjoy reloading.

I shoot a 260, which is about the same. I have used only the Nosler 100 gr Ballistic Tip and the 120 gr version. Both are extremely accurate and are effective on deer, pigs, and coyotes. After using both bullets over 6 or 8 years of hunting with that caliber, I am firmly convinced that the 120 gr is a better deer and hog killer. Both bullets do a fine job, but I rarely get an exit wound on a big pig when using the 100 gr BT. I get more exits with the 120 gr version. I popped a 200 pound hog a couple of days ago, using the 100 gr BT. He trotted about 20 or 30 yards before he dropped. He couldn't get any deader, but again the bullet didn't exit.

One of the reasons I stick to these bullet weights is to keep the trajectory similar to my 270, which I shot for 25 years or more. Less thinking is required by me if I don't get away from that trajectory. If I had a longer barrel, I might move to the 130 gr Accubond if I could get it up close to 2900 fps MV.

Many 260 and 6.5 CM shooters use the heavier bullets, at 140 gr or so. It appears to me that they want the high BC of those bullets for long distance shooting. I don't see the need for high BC for my needs.

I am using the eldx bullets by hornady. I wanted the high bc but also wanted a bullet that had good expansion. I am going axis hunting next week so I will hope to have a report on bullet performance. If I didnt want this rifle to be both a long range gun and a hunting rifle I would have gone with the 120 gr bullet.

Why could you not load both? When hunting 120gr and for distance the 140's

A fellow could certainly load the 120's and 140's, but I'm not a long distance shooter. Every now and then I'll see a pig or coyote at 400 yards or so, but that's about it. Basically, I have no need for a high BC bullet in the 140 gr range for shooting 600 or 1000 yards. I have much more need, personally, to have a bullet that duplicates the path of the 130 gr in a 270. I shot that 270 load for so many years that I think in terms of that trajectory. But that's just me.

I am quite fond of the 260/6.5 CM for hunting and punching paper. It does about everything my 270 does, but with less recoil and in a smaller lighter rifle. What's not to like? Whatever bullet you choose, and there are many choices, I hope you enjoy shooting that caliber as much as I do. I can see now why the 6.5x55 has been so popular for so long. It seems that these 6.5 calipers are just easy to shoot well.

120 A-max. Killed 5 axis bucks with it from 160-230lbs. All one shot kills, all but one dead where they stood. Longest shot was 310 yards and he didn't move.
