I've never transplanted it but that stuff is crack for gray ducks and wigeon. We found some potholes on public this year loaded with it and I swear it was like hunting a baited pond.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

as long as your duck hole water has some kind of clarity and isn't just a mud hole, it will grow when you transplant. If the water is too muddy for wigeon grass, check the water ph and transplant duckweed. It typically won't attract the variety of species as wigeon grass, but mostly gadwalls with a few others mixed isn't is better than nothing.

Real question is, do I need to dig up the roots, or can I harvest the tops and move them in mass quantity to the new pond? My lease is covered in it, 30acres of it

however you go about harvesting it. Whether by pitchfork, rake, manure scoop, etc just get what you can get. But, when you move it to the new pond, you will need to mash some of it down into the mud in several areas. What are the water conditions like where you are wanting to establish it?

The best pond hunting I had for early teal was over a 6 acre pond loaded up with that stuff. Usually I hunt them on big water, but that season was limits every time on that place.
Captain, I would take ya up on that. My brother's feeder pond would be perfect to get some going.
