7) make sure it's a Honda. I won't buy a used ATV if it has over sized mud tires, lift kits, aftermarket exhaust, bent handle bars or racks, cracked plastics. Always take it for a test ride, run it through all gears, use the brakes a lot, check all light switches. Jack up the ATV and grab the top and bottom of the front tire and try and wiggle it, checking for worn out bearings. The rear is more difficult to see worn bearings, but also wear out much less than the front. I sold a 2004 Honda Foreman with over 18,000 miles for $2500 last year, it looked great and ran like a top.
