Well I got him! I know it's a little late but hopefully makes for a good offseason story. So after my last post this dude showed up and I wanted him bad. Between duck and goose hunting, it's hard to find time to get in the woods. The way it worked out is truly luck at it's finest. I had a cancellation on a duck hunt about 9 the night before, so I was gonna set out for this deer. I end up running late and ended up making the decision to stall even more as to not get to the woods right at daylight, but rather sneak down to the bottom with good light in case there were deer grazing or cutting across. I get to the gate about 7 and a big coyote is cutting across the road in my place (approx. 30 yads between brush). He's a dang good sized dog with a lot of black throughout his back. He gave me ample time for a shot and I almost took it (.30-.30 was riding shotgun for such occasion). As bad as I wanted to something told me not to, and I was sick for not taking it as he made his way into the brush. Well I get my gear and ease down to the bottom....Nothing happening so I high tail it to my stand. With all the rain in the fall the carpet in my stand was soaked. The last time I was there I took it all out and hung it up on the braces underneath the stand (floor of the stand is about chest high). I get the first piece in and I catch movement out the corner of my eye. It's a mature buck and he's trotting dang near right to me! our view of each other was blocked by the stand, as I was on the back side that backs up to a mesquite thicket. You can imagine the insanity and disbelief. This buck came across a 3 acre open bottom to within 30 yards of me. I squawked at him which stopped him. I quickly get my gun up, bullet already chambered from the near coyote drop from just 20 minutes prior. There he is staring at me 30 yards away, but I had a hard time holding still free handed. I somehow gained a little composure knowing I was quickly running out of time. I took deep breath, felt good and let her rip just as his front leg began to move. in the milliseconds following the shot I just knew I missed. A big cloud of dust shot up underneath him, but as he went to run he did the ole buck/leg kick. As he ran I saw a good shot with blood coming out just behind the shoulder. he made it just inside the mesquites and rolled. I called my buddy before even going up to the buck. I sent him the above picture the night the before, and said i'm going after this guy. Apparently in my crazed excitement I called him "homie" LOL. As it turns out I believe it's the buck in that last picture of my original post. He had 3 holes in the main beam as you can kinda see in the one pic that were full of water. got some unique character, and couldn't be happier. Cant wait to see him on the wall!

Congrats on a great looking buck. But from what I can tell you the buck you killed is not in any of your pics.

Nice buck, I agree with others does not appear to be the same deer as in earlier pics.
