I don't think I would use a Ballistic Tip on an elk. If you're a Nossler fan go to the partion in 165 grain
I love BT bullets, they are great on deer but elk are tough

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I'm a die-hard .270 lover. Been looking at the 7mm 08 for my fiance however, and can't find a negative comment about it.

Bear in mind the 708 is a short action and you can get in a slightly more compact rifle and it runs fine in shorter barrels than would be ideal for a 270.

270 is going to shoot flatter within normal hunting distances out to say 3-400 yards.

I dig the 7mm08 because I prefer compact rifles, in fact I am building one with a 17" threaded barrel.

Both are good obviously

Just a thought but couldn't you put a brake on a 30-06 rifle that weighs the same as her 7-08 rifle and wouldn't they recoil about the same unless the 7-08 has a brake on it also?
