Ok, I'll admit it, I let my NRA Membership expire for these reasons:

1. Phone calls every day asking for money when I tell them I have other expenses and can't donate.
2. They never publish a spread sheet on the salaries of their employees, especially the executive staff.
3. They are now married to Ruger, who is married to Hornady.

Am I the anti-Christ?????? peep

I let mine lapse back in the 80's simply due to the amount of junk mail they sent. When I bought a lifetime membership in about '01 I got audited by the IRS three years in a row then every other year for 6 more. No joke. They owed me a couple hundred every time so I really didn't care. Still a PITA, though.

Every organization is scrambling for money now a days. I could spend my entire income to groups that I feel really do good for our vets, police, special needs etc. I just do the best I can and say sorry.

They're the best we've got. None of these organizations are perfect, but at least the NRA is on our side regardless of any internal self-promotion issues. When you begin to have doubts about the NRA, spend a week or two on the MSNBC or Huffington Post websites. It's a quick cure.

I've been a Lifetime member for many, many years. It's real easy to Opt Out of all of their solicitations. I rarely ever get anything but the monthly Rifleman magazine in the mail, and never any phone calls from the NRA.

I don't get calls.
I only get a few mailers towards my renewal time.
The emails get busy, but you can opt out of those, which I do and they stop.

Pretty sure you can ask them to cease the calls asking for this or that. I used to get some, but not so much anymore. Definitely the best we've got and can't imagine where we'd be without them. I let mine lapse a few years ago, but just rejoined again.

And honestly don't really care about their salaries, etc. In fact I hope they're competitive so they can attract the best people.

I am a lifetime member too. They would call me once a week and it got annoying. I was busy one day when they called and I threw a fit with the guy on the phone (at least he spoke clear English). When he finally got a word in, he said it was no problem to take me off the call list, I just had to ask. I almost felt bad for fussing at him, nice guy. I have never received another phone call from them.
Ever so often I get in a mood to support them, so I'll buy someone (usually a relative) a life time membership for Christmas or a birthday. I told them to make sure that they get removed from the call list, so far it has been no problem.
I get the magazines still, but the junk mail quit. Maybe they quit after you do not respond to the mailers.

I had let my NRA membership lapse for a number of years, then decided to give it a go again, because I remembered liking the American Rifleman magazine a lot. - I used to read it cover to cover, and enjoyed getting that dose of firearms culture.

Then I got to take a look at the more recent American Rifleman, and was pretty disgusted... They peed all over the thing. Now it's almost all advertising, pages and pages of political junk - and if you look really carefully, you can still find a couple of articles embedded somewhere in there. - What a gyp!

After a few issues came in like that, it got to where they went directly into the round file, unopened. Trying to dig out a few articles out of all the BS was not worth the bother. - I figure the umpty-dozen political (money-begging) eMails that I kept getting as a member covered that end well enough... So why SPAM up what was once a perfectly good magazine?

Supporting what the NRA does is a good idea in any case, but I would not recommend that anybody join the NRA for the magazine that they publish.

What they need to get the magazine back up to snuff is some adult supervision. Looks like the current management is not providing that. This is what happens to any good organization when they put dip-tard activists in the drivers seat, and let them start calling all of the shots.

Kind regards, charlesb

Like everyone else has stated, I don't get solicitations. And I am fairly certain more of our second amendment rights would have been eroded away years ago if it were not for the work of NRA.

Doesn't make you a bad person or a scab, Buzz. I think you could rejoin and communicate to them that you do not want any solicitations. If you don't rejoin, then that is your perogative.

When I was in my teens I signed up for both NRA and NAHA (north american hunters association?? I think thats what it was) for life time memberships. I will get a sticker once a year from the NRA and still get magazines monthly from the hunters association. I dont really ever read them anymore except you know where. But have never received a phone call from either, prob cause I have changed my # 5-10 times since I was that age

I'm a member, and I send extra money from time to time. Yes, they can be a pain, but they are fighting for us. All I need to hear is Hilary saying how awful the NRA is to know that they are effective. Effective is good.

Yep, I agree with some of the criticism, but I also know that they're all we have to protect ourselves from the "dark side" that wants to take every opportunity to chip away at our 2nd Amendment rights. I holler at 'em when they send me too much stuff, call me, or try to get me to renew my membership one month after I've renewed it. But, with all their warts and scabs, I want them to keep fighting for us and will continue to support them until some new organization rears its head and proves to me that they can do a better job.

Member's here. Hate to think where we'd be at without them. Never gotten a call, but that's probably because I've never given them my cell.

My 200.00 life membership may be one of the best investments I have ever made. Been getting a magazine for 37 years so that's worth a fair amount. Add to that that my membership at my local range requires I am a member so that has been saving me money for 25 years.
I upgraded to Endowment a few years ago just because I felt like I had gotten a great return on my investment.
I recently signed up my granddaughter and grandson both for Life members as well.

They may not be perfect but they are the best we have standing up for the 2nd amendment.

I'm a Life member, but I'll be forever pissed off about the way they've used that "we-are-a-single-issue-organization-so-we'll-support-democrats-too" BS to justify their past infidelities. As far as I am concerned, you're not protecting the Second Amendment to the hilt if you're not supporting the rest of the Constitution and Bill of Rights to the hilt. I would like to administer a couple of spirited kicks to the groin of the individual(s) who thought it would be a good idea to support Harry Reid. Makes my blood boil!

I am a life member, and I have never gotten a phone call from them. The mailers go straight in the trash. The solicitation is annoying, but they have been fighting the good fight for us for a while, even if I don't agree with everything they do. I do get a lot of use from those 20-30% Harbor Freight coupons in every issue of the magazine.

I wouldn't worry about what their salaries are until they start to fail. And to this point, they've been exceptionally successful.

If you wait until they've started to fail, then you've waited too long. Failure is not a viable or acceptable option.

We must remember that the NRA gets (or used to get) a lot of members simply because the magazine was good - and now the magazine isn't nearly so good. I'm having a hard time seeing the up-side in that.

More adults, less activists in control of the magazine. That's what is needed.
