Got my four days off this week at the last minute so I headed west this morning. Checked my zero on my Creedmoor and about to head out to see what the axis are doing. Flip flops and short in February....go figure.

Couple of axis does with fawns are grazing along a dry creek about 60 yards in front of me.

Been hunting north of town since Tuesday. I'm seeing a bunch of axis, but haven't shot yet. Seen a 31-32" buck this morning that has triple beams. Never seen that before. Extra beam is 22-24" running up the right side main beam. He's still in velvet, but the velvet has turned dark brown, almost maroon looking. Should be rubbing velvet off in next week to 10 days. Trying to decide if I'm going to shoot him if I see him again or try to come back in early March. Waiting might be a mistake, since I'm sure most people would shoot him now and not care about the velvet.

If I see a triple beam 30"+ buck it's lights out.

Been in the stand since about 330. Hunting an open pasture that has water and food. Man it's windy.

Have this guy on cam a few times. Haven't gotten a chance to pull other cards. Looks young but has potential.

Slow evening. Lots of whitetail and a sounder of hogs. Shot a good sized sow right at dark. Drove over and put her in the mule then went to grab a card from a nearby camera. Drove about 300 yards from where the pig was laying and jumped a group of axis that were bedded down. At least 3 shooter bucks in the group but I couldn't get to my rifle. At least they're around.

Danged wind has them bedded down. Gonna try again around lunch if these gusts die down.
