If you're going to learn to quarter an animal, may as well practice on a hog.

So you got a hog, congrats. Now the work begins.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

You can't ruin a thing trying it yourself, unless you hit gut. You can still cook it however you cut it up.

I agree with all this, best way to learn is to do it. It helps to have someone to guide you along, but you still have to do it yourself.

Sharp knife, skin and cut quarters off. Don't gut that nasty thing. I never do at least unless it is a little dude for the smoker. Deer on the other hand are like butter so gutting is easy and don't smell.

If you just want sausage, hang it up. I do hogs by front legs. If gramble is too long for small size of hog use a rope to improvise. Skin from top down. Then just cut off quarters. Feel around the meat and cut. Use lopers if you want for joint. Honestly I just take the two hind quarters and backstrap but we have a ton of oinkers. Rest is for the yotes.

He's new to hunting and trying to plan ahead. He hasn't harvested a hog yet.

Mikey, go to Youtube and search for how to clean a wild hog. There is numerous videos you can watch how to get it done. Make sure you have a SHARP knife for this task.

If your going to use your shotgun at Lavon, make sure you buy buckshot for your ammo. welcome to the forum.

Gotcha Pitchfork.. I didn't realize that. I thought there was a hog in a cooler with ice and a bullet hole. Mikey, my apologies.

I just watched an amazing video on youtube about butchering pigs. How to butcher a pig nose to tail I have done a few and I wish I had seen this video before. I will do some of the things I learned in here on my next one that is for sure.
