I'm thinking about getting my Browning A bolt 243 rebarreled . What brand would you recommend what twist 1:9 or 1:8 ? I won't be shooting any bullets under 85 grains with this rifle. I know this may not be the best action to work with but I want to give it a try.

Not a darn thing wrong with an A Bolt action.

The action should be fine. As far as what twist, you might want to clue us in to what clambering you are getting. There's a lot of great barrel makers out there. Are you just looking for a reasonably priced replacement or a top of the line custom barrel?

Add another to the above list, Obermeyer.
Though they are button rifled, have seen some Lilja and Hart barreled rifles that shoot very well.

243 a 1:8 twist will cover you with all but the real heavy for caliber 115gr bullets. The 85 to 105 gr bullets will be good to go in your 243 at that twist.

Yes, if you plan to shoot up to the 105/108 grain bullets, go with the 1:8" twist. The issue with the A-bolt is the short magazine. You may run out of magazine room loading the 105/108 bullets to the lands. If you load your own ammo, have your smith check the chambering and compare it to the COAL of the bullets you plan to run. He can chamber it with a zero throat reamer, if needed.

Definitely 1-8" only way to go. Bartlein, Krieger, and Shilen are my go to's. I have heard really really impressive things about x-caliber, they are a new barrel company.
